Dr. Bair began his professional life as precious metals chemist, biochemist and pharmacology researcher before attending medical school at Michigan State University. He has had a life-long interest in fitness, nutrition, and anti-aging medicine. As a physician, this led him to become interested in skin health. Sun-damaged, aging skin is thin and sagging due to a decrease in collagen, strands of protein that act as the superstructure of our skin. This skin looks lifeless due to decreased cell turn-over of the surface epidermal cells. There is also compromise of the vascular components of the skin causing, at the same time, dilated and inflamed capillaries and decreased blood supply. The skin lacks moisture and elasticity. Fine wrinkles (rhytids) and ever increasing creases form. The pigment cells (melanocytes) produce abnormal amounts of pigment resulting in dark "age spots."
