Pioneered by the French physician Dr. Michel Pistor in 1952, mesotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment that targets problem areas with microinjections directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin.) These microinjections use conventional, FDA-approved medications that are highly specific to the condition being treated. Dr. Bair has completed extensive training in mesotherapy with Drs. Lionel Bissoon and Raúl Rodriguez, world-renowned practitioners of mesotherapy. Additionally, Dr. Bair was one of the first board certified physicians trained to perform mesotherapy in the United States.

The mesotherapy treatment for body is used for body sculpting to reduce, eliminate and contour specific undesired fat pockets in body areas such as “love handles”, “belly bulges” and “saddlebags”. The ideal candidate for mesotherapy is someone that is at or near their ideal body weight and needs a little help with those trouble areas. This treatment targets the receptors on fat cells that produce lipogenesis (fat production) and lipolysis (fat breakdown). Receptors that breakdown fat are known as beta receptors; those that create fat are alpha receptors. Alpha receptors are stimulated to produce fat when you ingest food containing carbohydrates, fat, amino acids, hormones or alcohol.

In both men and women, the ratio of alpha to beta receptors is generally one-to-one– above the waist. Below the waist, women have approximately six to eight alpha receptors for every single beta receptor. This is the main reason women have trouble losing fat in their abdomens, buttocks and thighs: their bodies are designed to retain fat in those areas.

A medical history and physical examination is required prior to receiving the mesotherapy treatment for weight loss and body sculpting. Based on individual requirements, Dr. Bair selects a formula consisting of several medications that block alpha receptors and stimulate the beta receptors. Once injected into the skin, the formula slowly diffuses into the fat and breaks it down.
