How does Advanced Body Sculpting with SmartLipo^™ compare to conventional liposuction?

SmartLipo^™ is far and away the best type of liposuction available today. It is a method that offers the best results with less trauma, a fast recovery time and a cost that is very competitive. With SmartLipo^™, no longer is it a requirement that clients be put to sleep using general anesthetics, nor do they have to be admitted to a hospital for treatment. Clients can return to normal activities more rapidly, and their treatment is safer and provides improved results for smoother and tighter skin. Today, conventional liposuction is meant to remove greater amounts of fat; however, since this can leave behind unsightly pockets of skin and fat, SmartLipo^™ is often a perfect complement.

Is there a recovery period?

It used to take weeks or even months of painful healing and limited mobility to recover from conventional liposuction, but with SmartLipo^™, recovery time is fast and relatively painless. Many clients compare the feeling after the local anesthesia has worn off to the normal aches and pains after a vigorous workout (unlike conventional liposuction, where the patient often feels as if a truck has been driven over their body.) SmartLipo^™ is a minimally invasive treatment that requires only local anesthesia. Some light trauma can occur, but clients are able to return to work in a couple of days and resume exercise after two weeks.

More specifically, recovery starts the moment Dr. Bair turns off the SmartLipo^™ laser. The client is then escorted to the lobby, where the local anesthesia can begin to wear off. SmartLipo^™ recovery does not involve the nauseating, disorienting recovery general anesthesia typically brings about – which many people consider the most difficult element of recovering from conventional liposuction. In fact, clients are usually sent home within one hour of the SmartLipo^™ treatment’s completion.

Dr. Bair will give you specific instructions on how to take care of yourself during recovery after the SmartLipo^™ treatment, and he may give you a prescription for minor pain medication. You will also receive a compression garment, which is key to recovery. It encourages healing by preventing the shift of bodily tissues.

Bair Medical Spa’s client care specialists take a personal interest in your recovery. They will schedule recovery checkups where Dr. Bair will examine your treated areas to ensure they are healing properly. They will also schedule your VelaShape^™ treatment sessions, which will achieve additional smoothing, shaping and slimming of the body by reducing cellulite, decreasing the fat layer and firming problem areas. It is very important that you keep your appointments while you recover, since professional monitoring is necessary for smooth, healthy and scar-free results.

SmartLipo^™ recovery is made up of several stages. Minor bruising and numbness occur directly after the SmartLipo^™ treatment, but they should disappear within days, if not hours, of leaving the spa. The swelling will drop within a week. Once the swelling disappears, your recovery is finished and you will be able to see the SmartLipo^™ treatment’s final results. These results will improve over the course of three to six months after treatment, and clients report that the skin looks completely normal after three months, meaning it would be very difficult to find the punctures or tell by looking at the skin that liposuction had ever been performed.

How many treatments are required?

Typically only one treatment is required. Results can be seen within a week, with continued improvement over three to six months. A compression garment will be worn for a short period after treatment, depending on the body area treated.
